Shyza Minelli is back with her first EP in nearly three years! After her releases on TuningSpork and Sub Static (plus her remix on Mobilee 001), she amassed a number of admirers who have clamored for more. But the Thai producer (who has also called Milan and Berlin her home) put music aside for awhile to focus on design and other projects. Finally last summer we heard a hint of her latest music when Jay Haze put the unreleased “Ancient Blessing” in his acclaimed Fabric mix CD, and the track now
finally sees a proper release. “Ancient Blessing” is a bittersweet, emotive combination of marching percussion, sun-dried piano house chords, and a simple, glowing electro melody. Meanwhile, “Tuck the Tummy” is a more urgent, driving number, with a harsher stomp and guttural squelches building up intensity until some ungodly static noise makes a nosedive. After four or five minutes (of the eleven total), the acid motif pops in, followed by one of the most deranged breakdowns you’ll hear this year.
This is hot Scheiße!
